THETA ALPHA SORORITY

Fall 2017- Spring 2020

Theta Alpha exists as a ministry to glorify God on college campuses by encouraging sisters to grow in their relationship with the Lord and prepare them for their mission in the world. Its sisterhood strives to establish unity among its members through a shared faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings. We served many local communities in our service events, like Balance 180, and participated in UF’s Dance Marathon. Our annual philanthropy event raised money for Danny Wuerffel’s Desire Street Ministries. We also had sisterhood events and prayer events that helped sisters get to know each other better and grow in their faith. I was an active Member for two and a half years, taking part in committees that planned our sisterhood retreat and philanthropy event. I also served as a Recruitment Chair for Spring and Fall Semesters of 2019. My time in Theta Alpha taught me the importance of having a community that supports me and challenges me to grow outside of my comfort zone. I stepped into leadership roles feeling confident I would be successful because of the support from my sisters. I grew as a person—learning what it means to be a mentor and supportive friend—that will be used in any career path in the future.

DELIGHT MINISTRIES

Fall 2016- Spring 2020

Delight’s mission was to invite college women into a Christ-centered community that encouraged vulnerability and a space for girls to share their stories. Each week, we worked to create a welcoming, inclusive community for the women of the University of Florida. I was an active member, beginning in Fall of 2016. I served as Team Director from Fall 2018- Fall 2019 and Social Media Coordinator in Spring 2020. My responsibilities included organizing leader meetings, creating media for the social media outlets, collaborating with other leaders to prepare for weekly meetings and community events, and taking time to get to know the girls who were part of Delight. With my role as a Delight leader came the opportunity to attend the annual Delight Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN in August 2019. I networked with other leaders, learned how I could improve as a leader, and brainstormed with other leaders on ways to improve different areas, like outreach, community events, service events, and fundraising. My leadership skills and confidence grew immensely because of this organization. I discovered what it took to be a leader and that not all leaders need to have the same qualities to make a difference. I also figured out many different social media tools and resources to help with spreading the word about Delight. Overall, I learned many skills that can be applied to my career as a health educator and to my future.

STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE

UF College of Nursing at Coventry University
- Summer 2018 -

I studied abroad for two weeks at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. Each day, we sat in a class for nursing students, learning about different specialties for nursing, the National Health Service (NHS), and mental health awareness/treatment, to name a few. We also took part in many cultural experiences like going to a Guild Hall for afternoon tea, exploring Coventry Cathedral, and flying to Paris for the weekend.  Studying abroad helped me learn more about nursing from both the UF and Coventry nursing students, but also about myself. I discovered that I enjoy learning, whether it is about a new culture or different health system. I also found that being put out of my comfort zone encourages this learning and growth. The button below is a link to my portfolio that I created for my class.
